Both of our boys enjoy berries, but our senior pup, Oli, is a true berry fanatic. These bliss balls were created with him in mind. From fresh picked garden berries (with plenty of “help” from eager paws) to frozen, dehydrated, blended into pupsicles, or turned into gummies, our dogs will happily eat berries any way they can get them.

If truffles aren’t your thing or you’re looking for a flour free option be sure to browse our dog treat collection for even more berry based snack ideas.

Bliss ball (or truffle style) dog treats can be made with almost any combination of dog friendly ingredients, as long as they firm up properly. This usually means including ingredients that set when chilled, like coconut oil, and/or ingredients that absorb moisture over time, such as coconut flour.

These berry truffle treats also include ground flax, which adds nutritional benefits while helping the mixture hold together beautifully.

Homemade Berry Bliss Ball Truffles (Optional Coconut Coating)

Optional seasonings and coatings can be adjusted, substituted, or skipped entirely to suit your dog’s taste. Berries may be used fresh or thawed from frozen just keep in mind that moisture levels vary, so you’ll need to adjust the flour accordingly.

  • ¾ cup dog friendly berries, mashed or pureed (raspberries and blueberries work wonderfully)
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil, melted
  • 2 tbsp ground flax or LSA
  • Optional: a pinch of Ceylon cinnamon
  • Approximately ⅓–½ cup coconut flour
  • Optional: fine desiccated coconut or another coating for rolling

The amount of flour needed will depend on the moisture content of your berries and any optional ingredients. Mix gradually and aim for a slightly soft dough soft truffles are better than crumbly ones. If you plan to coat the truffles, keeping the mixture a little moist helps the coating stick.

  1. Mash or puree the berries until smooth.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the berry puree, melted coconut oil, ground flax, and any optional seasonings.
  3. Add coconut flour gradually, mixing well after each addition, until the dough is sticky but firm enough to shape. The mixture may feel loose when warm but should hold together when pressed.
  4. Adjust as needed with a small amount of extra flour, oil, or warm water to achieve the right consistency.
  5. Roll into small, bite sized balls.
  6. Roll in coconut or leave plain, if desired.
  7. Refrigerate until firm.

Always choose an appropriate treat size for your dog. Truffles can be broken into smaller pieces, especially for dogs who tend to gulp treats rather than chew.

  • Store treats in the refrigerator for short term use or freeze for longer storage.
  • Cinnamon offers health benefits, but it isn’t suitable for all dogs especially pregnant or nursing dogs. If used, choose Ceylon cinnamon only and use sparingly.
  • Coconut flour is naturally gluten free, high in fiber, and very absorbent, making it ideal for no bake dog treats.
